Bagels - made at home with ease


These artisan bagels are so easy to make and are made with only 2 ingredients.   The fact that it comes out of your kitchen ensures that you have control of all the ingredients that go into the bagel.  To add a personal touch you can add any flavours of your choice to the top - sesame seeds, garlic powder, rock salt, "everything" spices etc.

You can also  add some healthy ingredients like cinnamon and raisins or nuts and seeds to the dough. I kept it simple because I was trying this out for the first time and restricted my experimental flavorings to the top of the bagel.  I mixed 1 heaped teaspoon of Parmesan cheese with 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, salt and pepper, and some chilly flakes and sprinkled this on the top of the bagels before I baked them.....all I can say is Yummy!!

This recipe makes 4 bagels and they come out perfectly delicious, and won't last long after it comes out of the oven.  As a bonus each bagel has 5.7 g of protein and 165 calories.

Ingredients


1 and 1/8 cup of all purpose flour
1 cup Greek Yogurt (whole milk)
1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)





 Method



Preheat the oven to 350 F

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and grease well ( you can spray with a kitchen oil)

Mix the yogurt with the flour and salt .  You can use a spatula to mix the ingredients at this stage.


When the mixture looks blended, use your hands to knead for a few minutes.   Form into a rough ball.

Remove the dough and place it on a cutting board.  Form into a rough circle.

Cut the dough into 4 equal parts.
 Form each piece into a a rough circle to look like like a bagel
Poke your finger through the middle and push apart to form a hole. 
Spray the top gently with a cooking oil, or use a pastry brush to brush the tops of the bagels.  Sprinkle the tops with your choice of  flavours or leave it plain.

Put the bagels on the baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for about 20 - 25 minutes until gently browned.  Remove from oven and enjoy !
