Peas Pilau - made easy

Fragrant Peas Pilau is a rice dish that my family really enjoys.   The only complaint I would hear was when someone bit into a whole clove or other spice that had escaped my "keen" eye when removing them from the finished product before serving.

To keep things simple  I started using ground spices in my pilau, and always use a rice cooker to prepare my rice.  The ground spices keep my family cheerful, and the rice cooker keeps me smiling!

Peas Pilau is often served in Goan homes on a Sunday or at any festive occasion.  White rice is the usual staple, but I no longer reserve pilau for special occasions and serve it at home whenever the cook feels like making it!

Served with my favorite meat accompaniment - Goa Sausage

Ingredients

For 3 cups of rice rinsed and drained (washed, rinsed till water runs clear, and left standing for at least 15 minutes in clean cold water)
1/2  teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
salt to taste ( I used 2 heaped teaspoons)
1 level teaspoon ground garlic powder
1 level teaspoon turmeric
1 soup cube crushed (or use broth instead of water)
1 cup peas (frozen or fresh)
4 cups water or as per your rice cooker instructions
1 teaspoon of olive oil or coconut oil for a richer pilau (optional)

Directions

Spray the pot of the rice cooker with cooking oil

Add all the ingredients and stir to mix.  Turn the rice cooker on, and enjoy when ready.
